Nurture

Deepening our Faith: Christian Nurture for All Ages

As Presbyterians, we believe that Christian Nurture in the church starts with the Service for the Lord’s Day. This important Sunday morning worship is a special time where the Word is read and shared, and the Sacraments are joyfully celebrated.

Nevertheless, our dedication to nurturing faith goes beyond our main service. We offer exceptional Sunday School classes for all ages, providing opportunities to explore and deepen your spiritual journey.

Nurture Faith through Questions

At UPC, we strive to integrate faith with daily living and welcome questions and doubts. Here, everyone can find support and encouragement. Regardless of where you are on your spiritual path, UPC Fort Madison offers a haven of care and inspiration for you!

Curriculum

Our books and materials engage learners of all ages, promote critical thinking, and deepen understanding. We currently offer curriculum from our denomination, the PC(USA), and from 1517 Media, a publisher connected to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which is in Full Communion with the PC(USA).

Read the descriptions below to learn more about our curriculum for the Fall Quarter, 2024:

Adults

For the Winter Quarter, adults are using the Feasting on the Word Curriculum, which takes a deeper look at the lectionary texts for each Sunday of the Liturgical Year. Each week, we ask the questions “What is important to know?” (the Exegetical Perspective), “Where is God in these words?” (the Theological Perspective), “So what does this mean for our lives?” (the Pastoral Perspective), and “Now what is God’s word calling us to do?” (the Homiletical Perspective). Come gain deeper insight into the scriptures with us!

Youth

This Fall, our youth are excited to start a Bible survey with the CoLABorate curriculum from Sparkhouse. Each week, they’ll watch a fun and engaging video. Every student will get a personal workbook filled with activities to make learning enjoyable and enriching. Youth are currently studying the Old Testament and upon completion of that survey will begin a survey of the New Testament.

Children

This Fall, kids can explore their faith with the exciting Spark curriculum from Sparkhouse. Featuring stories from the Spark Story Bible, fun songs, hands-on activities, and lessons that make the Bible come alive, your children will love Spark! Spark highlights the significant Bible stories that have been formative for children for centuries, applying those ancient stories to their lives today.
